About this deal

Each love letter in this book was like a complex of musical notes, that accelerated the most affectionate feelings when I was reading it. The letters prove that no matter where in time, true love is always the same: strong, unwavering, and full of heart. At the age of 9, he gave his first public performance and a year later went to Vienna, where he studied with Karl Czerny and Antonio Salieri.

That collection never actually existed, but all of the letters referenced in the film were real; so Macmillan decided to create Love Letters of Great Men. A Hungarian composer, conductor, and pianist, Franz Liszt was a child prodigy who began studying piano with his father at the age of 6. Taken together, these letters show that perhaps men haven't changed all that much over the last 2,000 years, at least when it comes to love. Love can scorch like the heat of the sun (Henry VIII), or penetrate the depths of one’s heart like a cooling rain (Flaubert). The book simply chronicles one day in the fictional life of Leopold Bloom, but it introduces stream of consciousness as a literary method and broaches many subjects controversial to its day. When two souls, who have sought each other for however long in the throng, have finally found each other… a union, fiery and pure as they themselves are… begins on earth and continues forever in heaven. I never felt my Mind repose upon anything with complete and undistracted enjoyment - upon no person but you. I loved Napoleon’s letter to Josephine in Milan, and I also loved Mozart’s letters to Constanze sent from Dresden.

He was a council member and member of the war commission, director of roads and services, and managed the financial affairs of the court. Oh, how hard this secret has become for me, that I, as long as we have known each other, have had to conceal! Not all the great men in this collection wrote great love letters, although undoubtedly, some of the passion must have been lost in translation and/or lack of context. These transcriptions familiarized a wide audience with major musical works and also demonstrated the piano's potential for interpreting orchestral music. These letters bridge the gap between eras, reminding us that emotions are a constant thread throughout history. In 1819, he founded the journal Conservateur Litteraire as an outlet for his dream and soon produced volumes of poetry, plays, and novels. Written in July to his Immortal Beloved, the full extent of the letter is an impressive ten pages long.

In a world constantly evolving with technology and changing social dynamics, the art of expressing love remains timeless.

While some men are unabashedly poetic and romantic, others skew to the extremely opposite spectrum, to say the least.
