If You Were Mine
About this deal
This book is my new Melanie Harlow favorite, already a top 2017 read because it made me FEEL the whole time reading, my heart and soul were intertwined in this book from beginning to end.
I’m incredibly proud of Claire for standing up after falling down, and learning from their relationship and what Theo told her. Claire is an immensely endearing and compassionate heroine who wants nothing more than love in her life. God forbid we get a female character that doesn't act like her only value in existence is to look pretty and have someone love her. Theo is also a nurturer and loves taking care of people and it was heartwarming how he looked after his brother's family. I loved this book and I loved both Claire and Theo, they made you want them to be together, but nothing is easy or good without the drama and Ms Harlow delivered it all again. When our leading couple first met it to set up a one evening gig - he was to be her 'partner' at a wedding to save face after she kinda made up a boyfriend when put on the spot. I don't care that he went to prison, I care that I am reading a book about a 29 year old lying her ass off over something absurdly shallow like she's the main character in parent trap.
Except, they were both not expecting to feel such an attraction for each other and obviously, break Theo’s number one rule about sleeping with his clients.
There were ups and downs and a TON of self doubt (sometimes too much for my taste) but love bought it all together in the end. Anyways, guy meets girl, they agree to make this a one night stand, but he is terrified of commitment so when he hears her use the word DATE once in a sentence he runs away scared. Theo MacLeod is HOT with dark hair, dark eyes, and a muscular body that would make Roman statues weep in envy.
I don't know why, but things started getting boring and I didn't see enough depth and chemistry in their relationship as much as I'd hoped. He has a need and desire for being the person people depend on and wants to look after and protect those nearest and dearest to him. With a haunting past, Theo struggles with his feelings but shows his love without realising it, but, when he does realise he runs scared. Claire and Theo have a natural chemistry and when they get together, what should be all business, turns into so much more. Theo deeply regrets that he can't be what Claire wants but - while he is thoroughly conflicted about it - he is selfish enough to take what she offers. Theo happens to be Claire's rented hottie and from the moment he sets his eyes on Claire, he's completely smitten.
I guess her situation left an impact on me and made me think about how I love to doubt myself and now I live a very unsatisfactory life yet I do nothing about it. This breathtakingly beautiful tale of hard-fought love rendered me breathless and made me swoon in spades. From start to finish, I found this one to be super enjoyable, so if you, like me, are a fan of this author, or you simply want to read something delightful, you don’t want to miss this one. To complicate things further, she even described her imaginary boyfriend in painfully clear detail making finding a real person to play said boyfriend infinitely harder now that he also had to fit a particular physical framework.
She books a guy and expects more Ryan Reynolds than Keanu Reeves but dark and tall is what she gets. She's a compassionate and loving character and the way she take care of the people around her came through so well. I get trauma, usually people who are traumatized don't see their actions outright in the moment or even after reflection.
