About this deal

The key character in this book is the counsellor, Heron, who mainly uses the Transactional Analysis method in counselling. It introduces the concept of the 5 AM Club and provides a step-by-step guide to creating a morning routine that can help you improve your mindset, heartset, healthset, and soulset. Readers will learn about the counselling process and themselves as they join Toad on his journey from psychological distress to psychological growth and development.

Now I have some distance from that time this little book with its powerful metaphors has proved helpful in helping me recast the whole experience. I listened to the whole audiobook straight through, twice, as it was so engaging and packed full of therapeutic concepts (predominantly transactional analysis). Robert de Board introduces us to counselling with his account of The Wind in the Willows character Toad having therapy. Very useful for counsellors and counselling students wishing to grasp the basics of Transactional Analysis. For example, if we plan to go hiking with our friends, and they tell us before we set out that they have to cancel, we may feel upset.

A curious concoction , a mashup of The Wind n the Willows characters with counselling lore- “games people play” and so on. I realised that maybe I’m toad to an extent with a bit of mole chucked in and actually I’ve found my adult! Through this anthropomorphic parable, de Board takes readers into a realistic, humorous, and humane account of being in psychotherapy. He managed to impart the wisdom of transactional psychology through the gentle medium of a children's tale.

But by basing the information on the stories of well known characters, I was able to understand the ideas easily. I have read this book quite a few times and listened to it more than once, whenever I feel the need of some re-evaluation in my life and even now I can still gain new insights as to why Im feeing the way I do. Being a longtime fan of Kenneth Grahame's Wind In The Wind ( I visited his home in Edinburgh to see the plaque), I was at first irritated by how Grahame's characters had been "misappropriated" for this treatise on Transactional Analysis. It is a positive and uplifting read that is not afraid to highlight some of the challenges of the therapeutic process, and I read all 153 pages in the bliss of a seaside escape! In this article, when we use the word “depression,” we are referring primarily to clinical depression, not to a depressive mood. But after his depression hit, even white burgundy, sherry trifle, dry cheddar, pickles, and fresh crusty bread with butter leave Toad with little appetite. Counselling for Toad includes the characters and previous story of the classic "Wind in the Willows" The author, through beautiful writing had bought the characters to life just as they did in the original story.
