Bosch Power Tools 2.25 HP Variable Speed Router 1617EVS
About this deal
The positions, marked 1 through 6, represent a total RPM range of 8,000 to 25,000 (see the speed chart). The Bosch Precision Centering Design allows the bit to be centered with the sub-base or optional template guides. I would have expected to pay in the mid-200-dollar range for a Router of this caliber and performance so for me I can’t see a single thing to complain about cost wise.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like there is a standard for router bodies to fit into router bases and tables, and that standard is 3-1/2".There are a huge variety of accessories and tools that can take even those options to the next level.
There may be a project that requires one or two extra feeds/passes, but for safety reasons, I would probably do that anyway with a larger router or shaper. There was no visible ridge where the first and second cuts met, indicating the bit height remained identical through the switch position change. They make a huge difference in how much you have to shift the router to be able to access the chuck. This may sound like a minor convenience, but in practice can be a big help when moving the switch or cord location makes using the router easier or safer.
I never used the cases that came with these routers mostly because the routers are always being used. Right or left switch location for user preference and consistency (motor does not rotate during depth adjustment). The motor case features two sets of indexing grooves that allow positioning the switch (and cord) at either handle.
