A Girl Called Justice: Book 1
About this deal
I would definitely recommend this book to other people because it’s very interesting and mysterious. The two groups of students live beside each other in harmony, and it seems no mystery will be forthcoming from that change. Griffths has created a good mystery to solve, and I have to admit that when the villain was revealed, I couldn't believe that I missed the clues that had been planted along the way. Pero ya sabemos que por aquella época por mucho prestigio que hubiera… todo era bastante tétrico, además las condiciones son bastante pésimas y las compañeras, no todas, dejan mucho que desear.
Once I got used to that (I have to admit to being a little excited for a modern day mg sleuthing book. She soon finds herself in danger as she uncovers a web of secrets and lies that threaten to expose her as well.
Mystery and intrigue had Justice questioning everything and when a ferocious storm hit the isolated school, surrounding them with snow, blocking the entrances and paths, as well as bringing down the telephone lines, Justice knew they needed help.
Justice isn't sure who she can trust, but she will have to confide in someone to solve the case and save lives. The strained relationships with friends when a newcomer has to be accommodated are scenarios that many youngsters will experience in school and seeing these dilemmas played out in the story can provide comfort and a degree of guidance. The regular journal updates by Justice of key suspects and investigation details is also a good device. Much to Justice’s delight, the taxi driver who picked her up from the station lets slip that his brother, the local undertaker, recently had cause to visit the school. Justice has the comfort of her best friends at school (and fellow sleuths) Stella and Dorothy and Letitia.
Of her friend Stella’s faith in adults, she notes “She seemed incapable of believing that teachers could behave in surprising or underhand ways. In Justice, Elly Griffiths gives the reader a wonderfully quirky character: one whose inspiration is the protagonist of her mother’s novels, who recites her father’s cases when bored or needing to stay awake, who is clever and insightful and a little daring. The colors with the predominant purple and shades of green and blue with touches of black perfectly create an atmospheric sense of mystery. I wanted a little more backstory for justice and her mum, just cause I loved what we saw of their relationship!
Justice is fab - her notes about the mysteries and naturally suspicious and analytical mind were just wonderful. Justice is convinced that one of the teachers at the school is involved in the smuggling operation and sets out to find the evidence to prove it. Reconozco que el misterio me ha sorprendido, la resolución no es completamente evidente, a pesar de ser una historia middle-grade. Elly Griffiths was born in London to Italian/English parents, and has lived near Brighton since she was five. The architecture of the school itself seems made for mystery, with its turrets and tunnels and cellars and priests’ holes. The main character - Justice is an enviable character who despite her own problems in life, still shows strength, determination and positivity. For further information about your statutory rights, contact your local authority Trading Standards department or consumer advice center (for example the Citizen's Advice Bureau if you are in the UK). I came across this one in the library, yes, they are updating their not so big English collection, and of course I had to bring this with me.
He father is a busy criminal barrister in London and can’t cope with having a 12-year-old daughter at home, so Justice, who had previously been schooled at home by her mother, is packed off to Highbury House Boarding School for the Daughters of Gentlefolk. Griffiths first rose to fame with her debut novel, The Crossing Places, which introduced readers to the character of Dr. Nos trasladamos al año 1903 donde Justina, hija del abogado de la Reina, ha quedado huérfana de madre y deciden trasladarla a un internado de señoritas de alto prestigio, Highbury House. Samtidig må den unge pige indstille sig på, at denne nye verden, kan være et farligt sted at navigere i når man er en ung pige med nye venner i en helt ny og ukendt verden. Justice Jones had the quick, witty lines which she said under her breath/in her head which made me laugh and reminded me of some of Harry Potter's good lines!
