About this deal

Pip decides she is the only one that can solve the case and her very life might depend on it, over the next few days the stick figures get closer to her house before they begin climbing the wall to her bedroom and she knows whoever it is, is coming for her and soon. There was a strange feeling at the base of her spine, uncanny and otherworldly, like she wasn’t really here, but in the body of herself from one year ago. I miss the Pip I knew and loved from books 1 and 2, but I didn’t ABSOLUTELY hate the direction this book went. I related to Pip so much as a character, and found the plot line and writing style absolutely phenomenal. I don't have to have surprise after surprise in my books, but I'm not a fan of reading hundreds of pages when things can only go one way.

The first thing that happened and the last thing that happened, the same thing- but in a different light. Her family forced into a performance, trying twice as hard with her because she could barely try at all. Then, Pip at Cambridge can miraculously sleep after murdering someone BUT COULDN’T FOR MONTHS AND HAD TO TAKE DRUGS TO HELP HER AFTER SEEING STANLEY DIE? She closed her eyes and made a new silent promise to him, because he had chosen her and she had chosen him: they were going to get away with it. She's become harried, and less strait-laced as one might expect from someone with a history of becoming involved in murder investigations, yet still so identifiable that it seemed like I was on the dark, terrible ride with her.I needed fresh new people (and yes I know Pip is from a small town but are you trying to convince me their population is 10 people? Pip ends up going down familiar rabbit holes and sees to Harriet, a sister of the one of the victims and learns that she knew Andie Bell and that became friends after her sister died which seems out of character for Andie but it also explains the mystery HH entry in her diary which puzzled Pip before.

I mean you would think that he would have learned something from his brothers mistakes, he admitted in the previous books that he felt his brother was too naive and maybe too nice which is why he met such a terrible fate. bestselling YA crime thriller and WINNER of The British Book Awards' Children's Book of the Year 2020. I thought that the first half of this book was the most interesting, exciting, page turning, writing of the entire series. As we cross the ¼ mark in the novel, I was excited to see where this was going to go but after how dark the second book got, I am not sure what direction Jackson is going to take this in.At that point, the book takes a turn in a direction I don't even recognize for this series and its characters. The end was very disappointing as well, I don’t know what kind of love is that but love shouldn’t be built over someone else’s misery. Pip is really struggling with PTSD after the events of the ending from book 2, and she's developed a pill problem as a coping mechanism. Long story short, Pip finds out the identity of the actual murderer, when he manages to abduct her and plans to make her his sixth victim.

The tone of this entire story is much darker than the previous two and I feel like some people may not like it as much because of that. One of the main reasons I escape into books is to take comfort in strong characters who can kick ass again and again, rising from the ashes no matter what happens to them. They set the scene they need and then head home to create their alibis, Ravi with his cousin and Pip with her friends and she turns to Nat, Jamie and Connor for it explaining that she can put Max away for good but they can never ask her how and she will never tell them and they surprisingly agree. She lives in London and aside from reading and writing, she enjoys playing video games and watching true crime documentaries so she can pretend to be a detective.Saved herself to save herself; maybe she was already fixed, Team Ravi and Pip moving on, living a normal life.
