About this deal

I’m not joking, on the same exact page she can’t look at him and then one paragraph later they are swapping spit.

Like you do at a rock concert, when your nerves get taken over by the force of the noise and you just have to surrender. Audrey's Dad reluctantly tries to enforce the rules his wife establishes, but he really just wants to keep the peace and watch Downton Abbey. I want to read about a character learning how to live their best life and learning ways to deal with their mental illness in healthy and careful ways… I don’t want to read about someone being fixed by some dude. Let me just preface this by saying one reason why I love this book so much is because of how personal the topic is to me. This book documents the recovery process of a teenage girl bullied enough to develop mental health problems (not a teenage romance although she does fall for her brother’s friend Linus and it’s adorable) it’s more about family and how they grow out of the hardships. It's fun, it's quick, it's cute , but it also focuses on deeper topics with maturity and responsibility. We not only follow Audrey’s recovery from anxiety, but also her character development thanks to her relationships with Linus, her parents and brothers. She's stopped going to her school, rarely leaves her house and wears dark glasses as a way to protect herself. I found the novel to be heartfelt and charming, at times funny, at others poignant and always honest.

When I was 14, I was bullied and had a really rough time in high school, so much so that I couldn't go to school, or even leave my own house (all of which happens to Audrey).Join our community to get personalised book suggestions, extracts straight to your inbox, 10% off RRPs, and to change children’s lives. And I can feel something new between us, something even more intimate than anything we've ever done. Thanks to the friendship of her brother and her brother’s friend Linus, Audrey learns to grow as a person. The story follows 14-year-old Audrey who suffers from severe social anxiety which results in her not being able to leave the house or interact with anyone outside of her immediate family.
