About this deal

Furthermore, if you are able to destroy a ship before it attacks then they are out and don’t get to attack, so needless to say initiative is very important. Set up is as easy as asking what color they want and then handing them their tray that has everything they need inside. Though it should be mentioned there are ways to eliminate your debt by relinquishing systems you control, it is nevertheless very easy to bite off more than you can chew (yes, it has happened to us on more than one occasion!

The designers have cunningly made the player's board the hub for all those otherwise annoying end-of-round resource calculations.

The translucent colored cubes feel smooth to the touch and sit just perfectly in their indentations on the player board. I wasn't sure whether my wife would be up for a complex game like this one, but after one play she started to get the hang of it, and now it's a favorite game for us to play. Better get those ship upgrades right or you’ll be very embarrassed when your armada collapses in the face of the enemy defence fleet. The Postal service will also send you a notification slip when your parcel is ready for pick-up, but years of experience makes us recommend you not to solely rely on this.

At the end of the round, any sectors that have at least two opposing factions (including NPCs – more on those later) engage in combat. There are many potential paths to victory, so you need to plan your strategy according to the strengths and weaknesses of your species, while paying attention to the other civilizations’ endeavors. The game board itself is composed of many tile pieces that form the overall galaxy once fleshed out and explored. The ships are all unique from each other as far as look and ability goes AND if you got the ship wash done they look even cooler. This doesn’t have a significant effect on gameplay but does make travel through the centre of the Galaxy a lot more hazardous than previously!During the course of the game you will of course build up your empire to achieve galactic dominance, but the way in which Eclipse does this is perhaps the most unique I have seen. My goodness and the big bertha of them all, the GCDS space station sitting smack dab in the middle of the board.

The game plays fine solo if you don’t mind managing multiple races and honestly I didn’t find it too overbearing at all. However, given how long that game can be, I decided I needed a “short” 4x game to scratch the itch whenever the urge to play such a game came about without needing to commit an entire day to it. Then the upkeep phase will occur in which players will gain some tech and building points and have to manage their money income. The way the game plays at two is perfect for us because we don’t like destroying what each other has built. Every component is designed to have its own little niche inside of the game box, and there is virtually no spilling over of components when inside. These might be improvements to weapons, engines, shields or a number of other aspects; all of which will improve your fleet’s chances when they get to grips with the enemy.
