About this deal

In these songs, he follows the Blues from its origins in Africa to the sad journey that takes the music to the Americas where the Blues evolves and blends with other styles. Isn't that the guy of "Driving Home For Christmas" and "On The Beach", songs that are played to annoying death on any radio station around the world?

From Chris' first guitar, a 28 British Pound Hofner Solid to a blue '62 Strat and various dobros back to a forefather of the guitar, the banjo and even farther back in time, to the kora, Rea even steps outside stylistic periods and adds a Fender Remolux and Supra Baby to let the song rather than style or period dictate the arrangement.

The Blue Guitars album, packaged as a box set in the style of an earbook, [1] consists of eleven CDs, one DVD and a full colour book, including paintings by the artist, liner notes and song lyrics. For every lover of good music and for all guitar aficionados in particular, Blue Guitars is an absolute must.

He dedicated a month to each style and was writing and recording a song a day to try to cover it all. The general feeling of sadness, loss and blues, which is inherent in the Scottish, Irish and Celtic roots anyway, together with an all new instrumentation could lay the basis for a different kind of approach, giving the Blues the typical Celtic feel. I was there early on Saturday afternoon, just to see the Blue Gang reassembled, though I wasn’t able to play any. All of these great luthiers saw this as a friendly competition, and as a result they went beyond anything they’d ever done. Chinery intended the project to be an homage both to D-Aquisto and to the artistry of the archtop guitar.

If two pickups are on and one is reverse phased, the resulting tone is minus the sonic elements that are shared by both pickups. The eleven separate records which compose "Blue Guitars" could as well stand on their own; in combination, however, they provide a journey through the different epochs of the Blues, showing the various components that have been added to the original African Blues over time, the changes in instrumentation, style, lyrical expression and thematic implications.

Those follow on the subsequent pages, with every CD getting its own introduction followed by complete lyrics. Another is Pelham Blue which is used by Gibson and has been favoured by players such as Dave Grohl on his ES-335.This is a little add-on to the overall collection of music, some kind of making-of the Dancing Down the Stony Road album that Rea released in 2002, following the wake of his disease, his split with the record company and the process of coming to terms with his new style of music. The Blue Series is unbeatable in its class, mainly due to its solid wood construction and wide array of materials and body shapes, which offer a nearly inexhaustible combination of sound options. Once again, the lyric themes shifted away from known territory and began to reflect the changed situation, drugs, alcohol, sex, women, money gained major importance, life in wintry ghettos and anonymous housing schemes contributed its share. The 120 songs composed and arranged and recorded by Chris Rea with his friends are so authentic and deeply felt, it is a 'Gesamtkunstwerk' like nothing else.

He also expressed concern about the digitalization of modern generations whose musical perception lacks the attitude for making the record listening a specific enjoyable experience.Personally, I think he excelled at the early styles of country and slide stuff, so I never really listened to the whole thing, it was an ambitious project, and I am happy to see him still around, on the fishing programme.
