About this deal

This is a book about love, life, interconnectedness, marriage, childhood and so many more relationships. In 2017, London’s Grenfell Tower, pictured in the background, caught fire, destroying 100 homes and killing 72 people.

The Grenfell Tower fire serves as a central point around which the stories of loss and resilience revolve. This books is discussing a popular event but it is so recent and apparently not global that I spent more time figuring out what it was then paying attention to the book. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. I just felt that this novel was unparalleled in terms of both writing and topics it touched, which is something extremely rare. They’re filled with rooms for sleeping, lovemaking, fighting; contain corridors that lead to areas of welcome and comfort; shelter spaces that hold secrets.

It felt like a number of things were mentioned and then dropped, so the novel felt rather scattered and choppy. A House for Alice by Diana Evans is a deeply moving exploration of family, loss, and the enduring impact of the Grenfell Tower fire.

I’m not British but I did wonder at this inclusion of a very traumatizing event in such recent history. As the investigation into the tragedy unfolds, it becomes clear that the struggle for justice and equality for people of color is ongoing.
