It’s got a buttery, peppery and earthy flavour and the Sauza family that make it, have a history going back 5 generations in Tequila making. Agaves are sourced from the Tequila Valley with double distillation in copper pots to 80% proof, before blending with natural spring water from the valley for bottling. Aromas of citrus and rich cooked agave fill your nose in this unique and very special blanco tequila. Just got this as a Xmas gift as I thought I’d like to give it try( having watched “queen of the south” and seen them knocking it back neat. Gulliermo Sauza is honouring the tradition of his family and using artisanal methods to create the best 100% agave tequila that tastes like no other.

Using 150-year-old methods and traditional equipment, the agaves are slowly cooked in a brick oven over 2 days. The result is a smooth and pure tequila with bright citrus and herbal notes, perfect for sipping or mixing in cocktails. Fortaleza’s signature Blanco is made with 100% stone crushed Blue Weber agave, and double-distilled for an extra smooth finish in this deceptively complex, yet easy to drink tequila. Presented in a hand-blown in Tonala, Jalisco by artisan glassmakers, the labour-intensive blend is unequaled in both taste and smoothness. It's cleanly grassy almost citrus on the nose with a slightly earthy vegetal finish for a real taste of the agave it's made from.

Determined to revive his family’s iconic distillery, in 2002 Guillermo Sauza reignited the 100-year-old boiler of ‘La Fortaleza’ for the first time in decades. Bottled in hand-blown bottles, Fortaleza is as close as you’re going to get to what Tequila tasted like 100 years ago.

Interesting fact: an old Sauza family distillery that was sold but the grandson, Guillermo Sauza has recently bought it and has up and running again, making tequila in the same way it was made over 100 years ago – with a small brick oven to cook the agave, a tahona to squeeze the juices out of the agave, wood tanks for fermentation, and the 2 original copper pots for distillation. With its deep aromas of citrus and rich baked agave, Fortaleza Blanco is a true aficionado’s tequila.
